The weatherman wasn't predicting this for us. All morning on the news they were talking about storms up by Bloomington.
So in the morning we dropped John off at the Hospital in New Albany, IN to observed Retinal Surgeries. The kids and I went to the YMCA and to the library to meet friends for story time. It hadn't been raining at all to this point. After being at the library just 20 minutes it was raining really hard and the tornado sirens went off. Most people are calm about tornado sirens but not me. I immediately grab our stuff and kids and book it to the basement. My friend laughed a little about it. I don't take any chances with my kids! Once we get to the basement several people say a tornado touched down in New Albany. So I'm freaking out a little because we were suppose to be on our way there to pick John up at lunch time. We were stuck there for 45 minutes! Luckily we were in the basement and couldn't see or hear anything.
When the warning had gone we went to pick up John in New Albany. On our way we saw several emergency vehicles. It wasn't until later that we found out, there was a tornado in Clarksville/Jeffersonville by WalMart and the YMCA. And a EF1 in New Albany.
The one in Clarksville and Jeffersonville ended with a barn just less than a mile to our apartment! And went right by the YMCA. I am so thankful this all happened Tuesday and not a day when Robby had preschool. This all happened during the time I go get Robby, and the tornado was right in my route to get there. His preschool teacher said they had the 2 year old class that day and they all had to go to the women's lockers room, she said they lost power and the emergancy sirens kept going off scaring the kids. She said you could hear the wind roaring like a train and that people that had tried to leave the Y were stopped by police telling them to get back inside. Many of the parents couldn't get their kids until later. I'm so thankful we weren't there when it happened.
The tornado here was an EF0 with windspeeds 100 mph.
This is just a few buildings away from the YMCA.

You can tell how powerful it was, it turned over this trainer and boat at Pro Bass Shops. The storm also turned over a car on I-65.

These are from the parking lot of Wal-Mart, just over the highway from the YMCA.

This barn is less than a mile from us. You can't tell from the picture but there is a green dumpster in the background and lots of wood piled on the ground. They had been building a house there and the frame was mostly up, and the storm completely took it out.

This is from Louisville were they had 2 EF1's by John's clinic there. They also had 2 semis turned over on the highway. Crazy.

With all these storms there weren't any serious injuries in the Louisville area. What a blessing.

Oh wow. I'm really glad you're not staying there permanently. We don't get tornadoes that often, and definately not that many at once! In the 15 years we've been here, there was only one time when more than one touched down in Columbus. It is scary! I don't know why other people weren't freaking out too. Also I'm really glad Robby wasn't in preschool too. Good thing you aren't here, the preschools here are 5 days a week 6 1/2 hours a day. Another reason why my kids don't go to preschool here...
