Bumble Boy

Just before going trick-or-treating we noticed Nate had a few little bumps, we thought maybe he was getting a little heat rash, since it's been really warm and he'd been wearing a monkey costume. Tuesday morning he woke and had a bad rash all over his entire body. I called his doctors office at 8:33, the lady answers and says, "we don't open for 2 more minutes call back." WHAT!! Why bother answering your phone! So I was a little freaked out and John was at clinic so I called my mom, and as soon as I tell her she says, "Have you changed laundry soap recently?" Why yes, I have! My mom is so smart. So, I immediately rewash his clothes in our old soap. I called his doctors office back and asked how much Benadryl can I give him for his hives? They call me back and say, they can't advise anything without him coming in and that he's too young for Benadryl anyways. So I ask what can I do to help it go away, take a bath etc. They call me back 3 hours later and say he has to be seen, they can't advise anything. So the next day, Wednesday when I had the car we went in, the nurse says she wants to protect herself in case it's not hives, so she wore a mask. Oddly enough she then was touching Nate and didn't have gloves and left the room without washing her hands! So I'm a little confused about her being afraid of breathing the same air but failing to realize she should wash her hands or wear gloves if she thought it was something contagious. The doctor comes in and asks me what I have been doing to treat it. I said, "your office told me not to do anything until he was seen." He says, "he needs to take 1 teaspoon of Benadryl every 6 hours!" I knew it!! So frustrating. Anyways- Nates hives finally went away last night. Though when he get's upset they start to come back in his face. It could be up to 6 weeks before he is completely over it. I'm so glad for a smart mom, who has had to deal with this many times, as most of my family is allergic to different soaps. Anyways- here he is on day two, which wasn't as bad as day 1, but our camera couldn't capture it very well. So here is a video from the ipod when we were at the doctors office.

Poor little guy!! Tom has chronic hives that he takes medication for daily. If he ever forgets they start to come back. I hope little Nathan is ok. I hate dealing with dumb people at Dr's offices. I'm so sorry little Nathan had to be so itchy for so long because of their dumbness.

you should have called your pharmacy. the pharmacist would have advised you how much you could give him and what kind of medication would be best! when alexander had his allergic reaction to peacans that's what i did! all i had was adult benedryl and he helped me figure out how much of the pill i could give him. glad you were able to figure out what caused it! poor boy was probably miserable. mark breaks out in them everyonce in a while and we never know why!
