Midwest Storm

Here is a video from one of our storms. This was August 13th the same storm that collapsed the stage at the Indianapolis fair. The video really lightens it up but we seriously couldn't see our own car parked right outside. It was only 6p.m. and it got pitch black outside; the light you see through the windows is the apartment outside lights that turn on at night. The wind was so forceful 70 mph, that it blew our stuff away, we ran out and brought it in. You can see our outdoor stuff piled up near the front door in the video. When it was over it had pushed our bike and bike trailer, that was full of stuff, away from it's area behind the brick in front of our door. It also took down many trees, including one at the church that just missed from hitting it.

The lighting in these storms are incredible. They do lightening counts on the weather stations and they're always in the thousands. The storm the week before had 26,851 lightening strikes in 30 minutes!!! That works out to 15 per second!!! Very scary stuff. It's nice being downstairs and without a skylight because it's not nearly as loud any more. Their storms here are still scary as they are nothing like what we have out west. This particular storm in the video clip didn't have much lightening, just heavy rain and wind.
