My gr-gr grandfather George Laub was asked by Brigham Young to stay behind in Winter Quarters to make handcarts, then later traveled to Utah himself. I'm grateful for his faithfulness in keeping a journal. We own five of his journals and as a youth I spent a lot of time reading them. I love reading about the early days in Salt Lake City and the close association the members had with the prophet.
My gr- gr- gr- grandparents Freeborn DeMille and Anna Knight DeMille, traveled west and settled in Manti. Anna's parents were Joseph Knight Sr. and Polly Peck Knight. I love reading stories about them and their faithfulness. About their love and willingness to help the prophet Joseph. Joseph worked on their farm and the first time he told them about the vision they knew it was right. They supported Joseph with money and supplies. Joseph even used their wagon when he brought home the gold plates.
I am grateful for all those that came before me and the things they accomplished in their lives.
What an honor it is to call such wonderful people my ancestors!

Sorry about the deleted comment, I was checking my family history facts.
So, Johnny, now it's your turn to talk about your pioneer heritage. Our Great great great grandfather William Atkinson was the captain of the Atkinson Wagon Company who left from Iowa in May of 1853. His son, our Great great Grandfather -(Grandpa Atkinson's grandfather) William Newlove Atkinson, was 13 at the time and he wrote a small bit about the trail;
"I left my native home in the spring of 1853 comeing through some of the states of America. Reached Keokuk in the month of May 1853[.] My father purchased oxen and wagons for the trip a cross the plains, leaving the Missi[ssi]ppi river we came through Iowa to the Missoura river nothing of note happening on that part of the journey. In July we left the Missoura river for Utah[.] while on the Western plains we met up with lots of Indians[.] they were very friendly[.] We also saw many Buffaloes[.] it would [be] hard to estimate the number, it would take some days to count them. We arrived in Utah Sept 11th 1853."
