Robby's Arch Enemy...The Eye Doctor!

Robby had his first eye exam today. It was all fun and games until the doctor tried to induce cycloplegia (put drops in his eyes to enlarge his pupils). Retinoscopy was difficult, but Robby proved to be slightly hyperopic, which is expected with young babies under the age of one year. They had to pry his eyes open to examine his retina, and he hated it. After it was all done, Robby had good vision and healthy eyes.
While 97% of mothers claim to do all they can for the health of their baby only 13% have their children under two visit a vision care professional. Lazy eye and cross eye could be eliminated almost entirely if all babies were seen by age two while the problem could still be corrected. It is suggested babies see an optometrist at 6 months. Most places have a program called InfantSee. They will exam babies under one for free.
In other news, Robby has started pulling himself up everywhere. He is so strong! If he sees something up on the couch he will try and pull himself up there. In the picture he is playing with Jenette's cookbook box. The video is of him enjoying Elvis and a dvd case.
